Scott Dennis Parker writes character-driven stories about people navigating change, chasing second chances, and figuring out what comes next. His fiction ranges from romance and comedy to crime, mystery, and adventure, but the heart of the story is always the same: interesting people trying to make sense of interesting lives.
Based in Houston, Scott has been telling stories for most of his life. He’s written novels, short stories, crime fiction, western adventures, and whatever else catches his imagination. What connects them isn’t a single genre, but a fascination with character, conversation, humor, and those moments when life suddenly takes an unexpected turn.
The Stories I Tell
I’ve never been particularly interested in staying on one shelf. I write romance, mysteries, crime stories, comedies, adventures, and stories that borrow a little from several of those at once. Genre gives each book its shape. Character gives it a reason to exist.
I’m drawn to people at turning points—people asking whether the life they’re living is still the life they want. Sometimes that question leads to love. Sometimes to reinvention. Sometimes to trouble. Usually there’s some humor along the way.
The Story So Far
2005 — The First Book
A co-worker asked Scott a simple question: “Will you read some chapters of the book I’m writing?” Scott said yes, and then heard the words that changed everything: “If you read my book, too.”
2007 — Going Online
Scott began blogging about books, movies, music, writing, and pop culture, beginning a conversation with readers and fellow writers that would continue for years. That original blog is still online, with over 1,000 posts.
2009 — Do Some Damage
Scott became an inaugural member of the crime-fiction collective Do Some Damage, where he continues to write about storytelling, creativity, and the writing life.
Today — Still Curious About What’s Next
Scott is still following stories wherever they lead…across genres, through different kinds of characters, and into whatever comes next.
